Getting Around

The title bar at the top of the main Geoida window displays the full path and name of the currently-opened job database as selected by the Open option.

The status bar section at the foot of the Geoida window is divided into an upper and a lower section.

The lower section displays the registration status of the installation and will display “Evaluation Copy” for unregistered installations or the name and address or company details for a registered installation.

The upper status bar section is sub-divided into a number of smaller panels; the number of panels displayed and their behaviour depends in some cases upon whether Geoida is currently displayed in a Normal or Maximised window. A Maximised window displays six status bar panels, namely Current Cursor Position, Spheroid, Horizontal Datum, Vertical Datum, Projection and Prompt-Line panel. However a Normal window displays only the first five of these same panels, but the Prompt-Line panel becomes visible only when it is necessary to display a prompt, appearing over the top of the Spheroid, Horizontal Datum, Vertical Datum and Projection panels and disappearing again when the prompt is no longer required.

In most cases Geoida responds as expected to typical Windows keystrokes and mouse actions. Most controls can be operated by using the mouse but keyboard strokes may be necessary or preferred in some instances. Refer to the following sections for further details.

The toolbar appears at the top of the main Geoida window under the main menu bar and provides buttons to gain quick access to many of the more-frequently used menu options. When the mouse pointer is paused momentarily over any button, the button's tool-tip appears, giving a brief explanation of the button's function.

For quick access to the Help for any option for which a toolbar option exists, first click the

button and then the button for which help is required.

Data-entry screens and dialog boxes respond to the following key sequences when entering and editing data …

Page Up	Moves to next page; data in current page saved if changed
Page Down	Moves to previous page; data in current page saved if changed
Home	Moves cursor to top or top-left field
End	Moves cursor to bottom or bottom-right field
Enter	Enters a value into a field and/or moves to next field, or executes the button with the focus (heavy outline)
Shift + Enter	Moves cursor to start of a new line in a multi-line text field
Up arrow	Moves cursor to field directly above current field
Down arrow	Moves cursor to field directly below current field
Left arrow	Moves cursor one character to left within a field
Right arrow	Moves cursor one character to right within a field
Delete	Deletes the character to the right of the cursor in the current field
Ctrl + Delete	Deletes the entire contents of the current field
Insert	Toggles insert mode in text fields
Backspace	Deletes character to left of cursor in a text field
Escape	Closes the current window but prompts to save data (the usual method of closing a window is to use the Cancel or OK/Exit buttons provided in the window)
Tab	Moves focus to the next field or control
Shift + Tab	Moves focus to the previous field or control
Spacebar	Toggles radio button or check box setting On/Off
F1	Display help for the current window
Right mouse button	Display context menu for Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Select All and Undo functions when editing in text boxes
Command buttons	Most command buttons indicate an underlined character in their caption - press Alt + the underlined character has the same effect as clicking the button with the mouse

For practical purposes, there is no limit to the number of pages of screen-entered data where multiple pages are provided (eg, Enter Points, Radiations, Traverse options).

Most menu options can be activated by selecting Alt + the underlined character in the menu item's description. Pressing the F1 key when a menu item is highlighted provides immediate access to the help documentation for the selected menu item.

Some special shortcut key sequences are also provided to activate items in the View menu that control the main display of points and line data. The shortcuts are indicated on the View menu and when remembered with use, may be found to be a quick and convenient means of executing the View menu options without having to 'hunt' through the menu in order to select the required option with the mouse. Some of the menu options and shortcuts above can also be executed with the following mouse button functions:

Ctrl + B or End	Zoom to extent of the job bounds
Ctrl + I or Page Up or +	Zoom current window in to about half previous size
Ctrl + O or Page Down or -	Zoom current window out to 1.6 times previous size
Ctrl + V or Home	Zoom previous window

Ctrl + W	Zoom a selected window
Ctrl + T	Zoom by a range of point numbers
Ctrl + P	Pan display window
Ctrl + R	Refresh the display
Ctrl + E	Review the job bounds

Right mouse button	Displays a small pop-up menu with common View options for zooming, panning etc
Middle-button or click scroll-wheel	Zoom In
Ctrl + Middle-button or click scroll-wheel	Zoom Out
Double-click left mouse button	Interrogate Point option is activated if within snapping distance of a displayed point
